GREAT BLUE HERON
The Great blue heron (Ardea herodias fannini) has a loud, terrifying squawk if you're not expecting it nearby on a quiet night, sounding like the call of what you might imagine a prehistoric bird of prey to have. These impressive birds mate for life, with parents taking care of the eggs and (truly ugly) hatchlings. Their biggest predator is the Bald eagle, and they are listed as a "special concern" by the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada.
