Katydid Nymph

I spent a couple of hours with this fascinating Drumming katydid nymph, which has never been observed in this area before. Note the tiny wings, and those eyes!

DRUMMING KATYDID
The Drumming katydid (Meconema thalassinum) was introduced to Vancouver in the 1950s and became well-established on the Lower Mainland, but is apparently non-existent in the rest of the province, including here on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, at least until now. I hope to contact an etymologist about my discovery, and I'll update when I learn more.
